This morning I went to have “Coffee with the Mayor Kristy Sayles” in Lathrop, CA. There were about 25-30 business owners and residents to find out information about what is happening with our city and get questions answered and also to find out new resources.This is a monthly event the city has and it changes venue from month to month. Today we were at Eagles Nest Harley Davidson shop. It was absolutely gorgeous inside! During the forum the major focus was about our kids and teens having a place to go or things to do-
1. Valverde Park and its still on schedule to open in Oct. 2008 with renovations completed as well as they are going to do some modifications from the original plan so the little league can have baseball diamonds for the older kids ages 13-18 years old as well as the younger kids. This park is also going to have a water feature similar to Stockton’s Weber Point. There is also going to be play structures and pathways to walk or jog.
2. Opening of the parks for the Mossdale area. The big community park off of Golden Spike Trail and Towne Center Drive will be partially opened for the city’s July 1st celebration. Then it should be fully opened by September time frame. *fingers crossed* They still need to add the concession stand, bathrooms and finish the baseball diamonds.
3. Teen Center they are running reports and testing the site on an 3 acre lot by 3rd and 5th street! This is still in the beginning stages but its great to hear that they are working on it.
4. There are a couple of Pastors who are getting teens involved in Basketball games at the Mossdale Elementary school on Wednesday evenings. They are working on getting more time for the kids to play there as well as looking for other facilities to have kids to go and enjoy and keep them out of trouble.
5. A Police officer did speak up and is talking about getting more programs for our children but the most important thing is getting parents involved. We all know its hard coming home from a long day at work or commuting but they need us! Key thing was responsibility.
The other things that were dicussed was the Mayor’s background-
Kristy Sayles is a business owner of a Daycare for over 7 1/2 years she believes in continuing education she currently is going to school taking 10 credits a semester. She is working on her bachelors degree. She just recently came back from lobbying in Washington DC.
Next month will be June 11th at the Best Western in Lathrop CA at 8:30 am. Please come and listen and ask your questions about this wonderful city! There are lots of information that is discussed.
